Every year, the Italian Week is held in Ottawa with a week-long party to celebrate Italian heritage, and Preston Street becomes a a party zone for its revelers! This is their 40th year of putting together this festival. One of the events I like to attend each year is the Saturday portion of the Finale Weekend for Italian Week. This portion of the week-long event is also put on by the Ferrari Club of America – Ottawa Chapter.
Under overcast skies, the kids and I ventured out to have a little fun and see some amazing cars. We arrived on Preston Street just in time to see Italian Car Parade.
For you car loves, there were various types of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Fiats and other cars I couldn’t recognize! My eldest was in awe of all of them, wanting me to take pic after pic as they drove by us. Here are just a select few of them.
After the Parade finished, we found a great spot along Carling Avenue for the Preston Street BIA’s Ferrari Demo Zone. This is where on-lookers could get their fill of fast cars zooming along a section of one of Ottawa’s busiest streets. As you can see, my little guy was dressed for the occasion.
Local radio personality, Majic 100’s Stuntman Stu, was on hand to host the festivities.
Some of these cars were a part of the Italian Car Parade, while others would have had a bit of trouble going slow, as they were built for speed!
Once the Demo Zone was over, we headed over to the the amusement park that was set up so the kids can fulfill their need for speed as well. So many of the shops and restaurants were dressed up for the occasion.
Along the way, we stopped every minute to see so many different kinds of cars, both parked and on the move! It was literally a car lover’s dream come true!
We were starving, but we finally made it to the fair grounds and main stage area for the Festival. The FIFA World Cup was playing for football lovers, while the rides were lit up and the music was pumping to get everyone in a partying mood. We sat down to eat some choice junk food, then I bought tickets to take my younger daughter on the Merry-Go-Round. Since she has just recently has begun to love horses, she had a ball riding on her pretty pony. That was the case, until the ride was over, and she found out she could no longer stay on the ride. I tried telling her that her brother should have a turn on the rides, but then he didn’t even seem interested in going on. As my eldest walked around the fairgrounds with him, my equestrian rider and I went on the “horsy” again!
After the rides and the junk food, I had to call an end to our time at the Italian Week Finale Weekend! We had been away from home for over 6 hours, and it was getting late for the little ones. As we walked home, the kids were laughing and talking about cars, ponies and food. It was such a great day, and the imposing rain had held off! I can’t wait to see what the Preston Street BIA will put together for next Year’s event!
I hope your inner car lover got to savour all of eye candy this post offered up, as well as the sights and fun we had at the Italian Week Finale Weekend!
Until my next post, Readers!
